The New Ev Charging Scheme Combines Fuel Cells With Charging Piles

AFC energy, a startup from the UK, has created a new way to charge electric cars, using hydrogen and oxygen fuel instead of local power grids, foreign media reported.


The principle of hydrogen fuel cells is not complicated, that is, we learned in school that hydrogen and oxygen form chemistry to produce water and give off a lot of heat energy. Its only product is water, so there is absolutely no emissions and zero pollution. However, at present, the research direction of car companies is to carry hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and the application of this technology in charging piles is a very creative idea.


AFC energy has come up with a charging solution based on fuel cell technology called CH2ARGE. The core of the solution is to combine the fuel cell with the charging pile. According to the company's plan, a power generation unit would be built in. Because the equipment is large enough, engineers have plenty of room for the reaction units, which can improve the efficiency of energy conversion. In addition, when electric vehicles are widely used in the future, our power grid system will bear a huge load. However, such charging piles are completely self-supporting and do not affect the local power grid load.

As we all know, hydrogen element can be said to be one of the most abundant elements on earth, but hydrogen itself is a material with unstable chemical structure, so how to transport and store hydrogen in large quantities has become a problem studied by the whole industry. Of course, this is also an important reason restricting the popularity of fuel cells at present.


For hydrogen energy transportation and storage problems, the charging piles can be connected to hydrogen supply pipelines or hydrogen storage tanks with regular refueling. Once such a hydrogen supply network is formed, a large number of such charging piles can be set up. Even charging piles can be connected to the urban power supply network, and such charging piles can supplement the urban power demand in peak periods.

At present, this kind of hydrogen fuel cell charging pile is only at the design level, but this kind of solution provides a new idea for the future development direction of automobile. Many in the industry believe that electric cars are a transition, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are the ultimate solution. But now it seems that hydrogen fuel cells do not have to be put on the vehicle, and it is a good solution to use them as the energy supply of charging facilities, while ordinary electric vehicles can also have a broad market prospect in the future.
